offer many different classes to motivate, inspire, educate, and support
you,
and to share our love of the art.
Once
you sign up for a knitting class, we encourage you to stop by the shop
before class starts to select your project materials. Our staff is ready to assist you in finding the right yarn(s) and needles for whatever
class you wish to attend.
All materials for classes are sold at a 10%
class discount.

Join us to make a wonderful scarf that would make a terrific fashion statement or an incredible gift and learn how to crochet at the same time! “Touch Me” yarn is aptly named for the wonderful garments that it makes, so touchable and soft. If you have been knitting for a while you know that crochet is an integral part of the fiber arts world; a crochet class is a great way to learn new techniques for knitters. |

Don't let lace intimidate you! It is easy and adds a feminine appeal to our featured headband pattern. After learning how to make YOs (yarn-overs) and k2tog (decreases), you will know enough to make the gauziest of laces. While making this flirty accessory you will learn to read charts, add new yarns, darn in ends, block, and a variety of other lace techniques. Makes a wonderful spring and summer gift! |

Shadow / Illusion Knitting |
|
Create a small project using the Illusion knitting technique. Learn to read a chart and discover that this seemingly challenging technique is actually quite easy, just knitting and purling. You will probably want to makeover lots of your projects using this technique. Join us and learn the fundamentals while making a monogrammed washcloth (makes a great hostess gift!)

In this class you will learn the mechanics of modular knitting by making a stylish and handy potholder or coaster. You will learn all abut the style of modular knitting by using a short row technique to create varying colors and textures. You can use modular knitting to create beautiful bags, scarves, wraps or even garments. This technique is easy to learn and creates deceptively complicated looking patterns that are addictive to knit! |

Japanese short rows are an improvement on the more commonly used wrap-and-turn short rows with which you may be familiar. With this technique a knitter can invisibly create darts and shoulders that slope beautifully – no more stair step shoulders! Join us and learn to refine your knitting.

We are so excited about this workshop! Are you one of those knitters who hardly knit during the warmer late spring and summer months and need a small project to keep you going? Do you want to brush up on knitting techniques while doing small projects? Join us each week while we work on afghan squares learning and using lace, mosaic, twist stitches, and a variety of other stitch techniques. You will end up with several finished squares to put together into an afghan or to use as washcloths, potholders or whatever else you can think of.

Come join us for our basic “Learn to Knit” class. Your adventure begins with a good grounding in yarns, label interpretation, discussion of gauge and why it’s important. You will learn to cast-on (how to start), knit, purl and bind-off (how to stop!) You will gain confidence and we will help you in tackling your first project. Let the games begin!

Intarsia, what is it? How do you pronounce it? “In-TAR-zha” is a technique that uses two colors of yarn, one at a time, to put a picture into your knitting project. The French Press Cozy is a quick project (makes a great gift!) that will teach you how to avoid gaps between your main color and secondary color and read a color chart preparing you to put any picture into your knitting! We will also cover duplicate stitch in this class. Join us to impress yourself and friends with your knitting knowledge!

Socks continue to be a perennial favorite – portable, quick and, using the new sock yarns, motivational. We can’t wait to see what the yarn does while we knit them. And we can guarantee you that once you have worn hand-knit socks; you may never go back to commercial socks again! Have you taken our basic Socks Soar on Two Circular Needles class or already know the basics of sock knitting? Are you nervous about knitting your first sweater or have you tried knitting a sweater that didn’t work out? Join us to learn all about the basics of knitting sweaters or brush up on your sweater knitting skills. This pattern is the rage of Ravelry.com and has been tremendously popular because of its simplicity and style. This sweater is knit with a worsted weight yarn of your choice from the top down, in the round so there is no seaming! In this class you will learn how to knit a sweater in the round, use increases for raglan shaping, and simple waist shaping. You can control the sleeve length so this would make the perfect spring or summer weight sweater! Come into the store to see a sample of the project.

The Elizabeth Percentage System (EPS) is a classic way of designing a sweater that is sure to fit from the immortal Elizabeth Zimmerman. With her ingenious percentage system you use only a chest measurement and gauge swatch to design and knit a sweater that is guaranteed to fit you or the intended recipient with whatever yarn you choose. If that’s not enough to get you excited one of the greatest qualities of this sweater design is knitting in the round with NO SEAMING! Another fun option for this sweater would be to add a colorful Fair Isle pattern to the yoke of your sweater like Elizabeth did herself.

Spinning is one of the fastest growing fiber crafts today. Join us for an introduction to using the most portable of spinning tools, the drop spindle. With this simple tool you can spin everywhere you go, making a surprising amount of yarn in a very short time. In our class you will learn to use several different types of spindle and well as spin a wide variety of fibers. Learn the joy of making your own yarn.

Have you mastered your high or low whorl spindle and want to take your spinning to the next level? In this class, you will learn a variety of methods to improve your spindling such as Andean plying, plying from a felted ball, Navaho plying, and speed techniques. We will also cover how to tie and wash skeins. Watch your spindling soar! |

Similar to crochet in it execution but MUCH faster, hairpin lace is a fun skill to add to fiber arsenal. Hairpin lace allows to create long strips of lacy fabric which can be easily stitched together to make scarves, stoles, cardigans and even hats! Join in us in the fun class to learn the fundamentals of hairpin lace and make a sweet little summer weight scarf/stole in the process.

Hand painting your own yarn is easier than you think! In this class, you will learn everything you need to know to create your own hand-painted skeins. Learn proper safety procedures and several dye applications while you dye up your own personalized colorways.

Have you ever been disappointed because a pattern did not come in your size or wasn’t right for the yarn you were using? If so this is the class for you! You will learn to make basic alterations to a commercial knitting pattern to fit your measurements. Topics covered will be taking basic measurements, altering for length and width, how to substitute yarn, how to make gauge swatches, and simple shaping.
This is a class is suitable for beginning to intermediate knitters with some experience. Please read the following regarding recommended skills.
Student must know how to do the following
- How to read and follow a pattern
- How to knit AND purl
- How to perform at least one method of each of the following
- Cast on
- Bind off

- Right leaning decrease

We will begin class by pairing students and instructing them on how to take measurements. Therefore, on the first day of class be prepared by wearing a form fitting top, your most supportive undergarments and flat shoes. Also, it is a good idea to bring pen and paper for taking notes.

Are you ready to start designing your own knitting patterns? Join us for this groundbreaking course in sweater design. In this course, students will learn to use their own body measurements to create a knitting sloper, and then learn how to use that sloper to create patterns of their own or to make alterations to commercial patterns, and learn the varieties of shaping math needed to discover rates of increase and decrease. They will also learn finishing techniques, Japanese short rows, and how to block garments.
Basic Sweater design class pre-requisites
This is an intermediate to advanced course. You will find it similar to a university/college level course in its rigor. There is no required homework but the more self-directed and motivated you are the more you will learn. Therefore, please read the following regarding recommended prerequisites.
Student must have taken Basic Alteration class or be able to do the following
- Must be able to knit at an even tension and check gauge
- Must have made at least one sweater or pair of socks
- Must know how to increase, decrease, cast on and bind off without instruction.
- Must be able to read and follow a standard commercial pattern.
On the first day of class, we will begin by pairing together students so that they can learn to take measurements. Therefore, please come wearing a form fitting top, your most supportive undergarments and flat shoes. Be prepared to be measured. It is a good idea to also bring with you pen and paper as you will be taking many notes. See you in class!

Atelier is French for an "artist's loft" or "studio." Our Atelier is a workshop to further develop the skills and creativity of our Sweater Design graduates. Working in the same manner as Project Central, your Atelier punchcard offers four two-hour sessions; your card expires in six weeks. So join us when you're stuck, or just to get cheers for your progress!

Subjects available in private lessons
- Knitting – beginning, advanced, cables, lace, Fair Isle/ color stranding, intarsia, mosaic, modular, buttonholes, finishing, two-end knitting and knitting with beads.
- Crochet – beginning, advanced, lace, with beads, in the round and color crochet.
- Spinning – drop spindling, wheel spinning, charka spinning, long draws, worsted draws, hand combing, drum carding and hand carding.
- Weaving – beginning weaving, inkle, tablet/card weaving, warping and calculations.
- Other fiber techniques – bobbin lace, kumihimo, dyeing, lucet, finger braiding, ply split braids.
- Wheel spinning – Wheel spinning is a fast way to make your own yarn. In this class, you will learn how to spin wool, camelids, silk and cellulose fibers on your wheel. We will begin with the proper way to set up your wheel, and then you will learn to spin the true worsted, worsted, and semi-worsted, semi- woolen, woolen and true English long draws. If there is time, we will get into fiber processing, too.

Suppose you have a project you want to tackle,
but there is no specific class offered that hits the mark.
That’s why we created Project Central. Share in the
camaraderie of a knitting group while you receive expert technical
support on the project of your choosing.
Each class is comprised of knitters with varying
levels of experience which provides you with the opportunity to
learn not only what you are working on, but issues and techniques
on a variety of projects. We will cover specific technical
information, as you need it, to build your knitting skills and
increase your confidence.
